TavernWelcome to our village

Our Tidy Towns Association want to share with you, a flavour of our village, some of its history and its character and amenities, We also have some stories and photos from the past and the present. So please join us for a tour of the present and a trip into its past.

The name Fiddown is derived from ‘’Fiodh’’ meaning a wood and ‘’Doon’’ meaning a fort. This was the location of an old Celtic castle built at the Moat to defend the river crossing. You can read more on the History page.

Fiddown owes its unique character and attraction to its location on the banks of the river Suir. Situated on the edge of the Golden Vale, the Suir valley is sheltered by the Comeragh and the Walsh Mountains and by Slieve Na mBan

The Gallery provides a photo wall with snapshots of the village today. We have room to add more so if you would like to share some of your favourites please get in touch.

Memory Lane contains a bric-a-brac of memorabilia of other times with a mixture of stories and a few tall tales but go there yourself and enjoy it. It also has a link to our photo-gallery which has some of the earliest photos of the village.

There are links to events, recent news, services, amenities and commercial activities of our village so Enjoy your visit, and if you need any further information or have a suggestion or query please
